From Passion to Profession: My Journey as an Interior Designer
Interior design has always been more than a career aspiration—it’s been my lifelong passion. Although I planned to pursue interior design right after high school, life had other plans. I instead earned a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of California at Santa Barbara, married an Air Force officer, and homeschooled my children. Years later, I earned my certification in Interior Design from the New York Institute of Art and Design, reigniting my dream.
My Unique Journey Shapes My Approach to Design
Every step of my life has contributed to my work as an interior designer. My mathematics degree instilled the precision and attention to detail essential for creating functional and flawless designs. As a military spouse, moving frequently taught me the challenges of creating comfortable, organized, and stylish homes, no matter the circumstances. Homeschooling my children developed my skills in time management, organization, and patience—traits that are invaluable when working on projects. Life’s challenges, from deployments to my son’s journey with Crohn’s Disease, taught me perseverance and the value of creating environments that foster resilience and peace. Completing our own home renovation projects deepened my understanding of construction and materials. All these experiences have given me a unique perspective to see firsthand how interior design is connected to real life and family needs.
